Enjoy these relaxing oils by Little Brown Farm.
We have two kinds of lavender essential oil. One is called phenomenal, named after the variety of French lavender plants we grow on the farm. Those are the plants you can see from the road as you drive by our farm. The second type we have is called Melissa, named after the English lavender plants we grow. These lavender plants are actually white!
While both oils are made using exactly the same equipment and following the same process, they do differ in their chemical composition and in turn in their fragrance.
We use copper still to distill the oils.
The French lavender essential oil has more sharper and less sweet scent. It contains more camphor compound accounting for the more cool, rosemary or eucalyptus like subtle notes in its aroma. The higher camphor content gives it more stimulating and invigorating effects. It can be more effective in respiratory issues, muscle tension and boosting mental clarity.
The English Lavender oil has a classic, sweet and floral scent. It’s more delicate, not as strong in its fragrance. It contains high amounts of compounds such as linalool and kindly acetate, which contributes to its soothing and relaxing properties. It is more popular in aromatherapy and skin care. It is recommended for calming anxiety, promoting sleep and gentle skin care.
Both types are beneficial, but the choice between them largely depends on whether you are seeking relaxation or a more stimulating effect. With their distinctive scent, it also depends on your own personal preference and how the smell makes you feel.
Please keep in mind our essential oil is 100% pure and not diluted. It is very strong in its fragrance and concentration. It’s perfect to use as is in your diffuser, but if you choose to apply it directly on your skin, mix in Cartier oil such as jojoba, coconut or almond. A common dilution ratio is 2-3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon(5ml) of carrier oil.
